Who knows whether architect Alfred Waterhouse would have embraced artificial intelligence (AI) if it had existed when he designed the RICS building at 12 Great George Street back in 1896?
One thing is for sure: like most of us until even relatively recently, he could not have foreseen the impact technology looks set to have on the built environment.
The historic HQ provided a strangely complementary setting for an evening hosted last month by RICS and Property Week to address the very modern question: what does AI mean for real estate?
To answer this, Property Week editor Lem Bingley quizzed a panel of experts representing property investors, owners and tech firms.
